“The job of the parent is not to build that relationship with their kid. It’s not to be their kids’ best friend. It it is to prepare them for the real world. No one gets a free ride. And the sooner a kid hits an obstacle, the better, because then you get to see how that kid can react to adversity. And somehow, someway get over it around it, and put it in the rearview mirror. Because those obstacles are going to come fast and furious every day and every year of their life as they grow up.”
